Paparazzi Weddings
I read a great blog article on Offbeat Bride on the modern day practice of bringing a camera or phone along to wedding this morning.
After reading the article I thought about it and realised how bad the situation has become, and from a personal note I now see it as being quite rude. If I am a guest at a wedding, I leave my Camera at home (yes I get to be a guest sometimes, mainly with family and close friends who want me to enjoy myself and not work on their special day). The wife may bring her point & shoot along to get a few snaps of our Daughter all dressed up (to go along with the 50,00 she already has lol), but the Pro Gear stays safely at home. The main reasons for this:
1. I want to have a good time, and enjoy myself as a guest soaking in the events of the day, not sit there with my eyeball looking through a viewfinder.
2. Respect for the Venue - Wedding Photographers have to abide by rules in Churches these days, there are certain times we cannot shoot, and areas we are not aloud to venture onto. Most guests with cameras would not be aware of these rules, and often break them.
3. Respect for the Pro Photographer - The Bride & Groom has paid good money to hire the best Photographer that suits their wants, needs and style. I want him to do his job to the best of his ability and not be dodging me and my equipment.
4. Guest Photos - Part of a Wedding Photographers job is to capture the mood of the day, this includes the guests. There is nothing worse than looking through the images later and seeing Uncle Bob with a camera in front of his face the whole day, or Aunt Sue looking down into her phone texting, or Little Cousin Jenny checking into Facebook every time she moves 30 meters.
4. MOST OF ALL Respect for the Bride & Groom - I have been asked to join them in their special day, as stated in the article above, the Bride & Groom in their haze will look around at the special people in their lives that they have asked to be there, do you really think they want to see a camera in front of their face, or them looking down into their phone?
So read through the article, have a think about what you want from your special day, your guests truly sharing your special day, or a bunch of people attending, but too involved in their own activities to watch you.
